Joyce gained her undergraduate degree with distinction in Biomedical Engineering from India in 2008. After Graduating from India, she moved to the University of Dundee for an MSc in Biomedical Engineering. During her master's project, she worked at IMSaT for the first time with Prof. Sandy Cochran and Dr Paul Prentice on "Laser Facilitated Cavitation in Ultrasound Fields" mainly studying the effects of laser facilitated cavitation.

In June 2010 Joyce was awarded the SUPA (Scottish Universities Physics Alliance) INSPIRE studentship to Pursue a PhD under the physics and life sciences theme. Joyce's PhD project is titled “Dynamic Characterisation of 2D/3D/4D Imaging", this project is a partnership between IMSaT and Diagnostic Sonar Ltd (Livingston). Joyce is being supervised by Dr Sandy Cochran and Dr George Corner.

She received a national award from Dr. K.R.Narayanan, the former President of India for her active service in "Bharath Scouts and Guides" in 2002.
